Cost-optimised single-core Cortex-A55 SoMs with EdgeLock Secure Enclave bring entry-level NXP i.MX 9 to industrial Linux designs.
Strategic Embedded has announced the TX91-3110 and QS91-3110 System-on-Modules, two new NXP i.MX 91-based modules covering both pin-compatible TX and 27 mm solder-down QS form factors. The i.MX 91 is the cost-optimised entry into NXP's i.MX 9 generation — single-core Cortex-A55, EdgeLock Secure Enclave, modern Linux mainline support — for industrial designs that don't need a multi-core SoC or NPU.
When to choose i.MX 91 over i.MX 93
- You need modern ARMv8-A Linux (Cortex-A55, current-kernel BSP) but a single core is enough.
- You want EdgeLock secure boot + key management without paying for an NPU or higher-end SoC.
- You need 10+ year availability on a budget — €39–€57 per unit at volume.
- Your design needs to scale: same TX or QS carrier board, drop in i.MX 93 / i.MX 95 as your spec evolves.

Both modules are available now via Strategic Embedded's webshop. TX91-3110: €51 Qty 1, €41 at 1,000 units. QS91-3110: €57 Qty 1, €39 at 1,000 units — the lowest-cost entry point into NXP i.MX 9 on the QS Family Concept.
