Measures only 67.6 x 26 x 4.2 mm, runs Windows CE

Woburn , USA – March 12, 2009. Strategic Test has announced the World’s smallest Freescale i.MX37 processor-based System on Module (SOM). Called the TX37, it measures just 67.6 x 26 x 4.2 mm (2.6” x 1” x 0.16”) and contains a 532 MHz i.MX37 processor coupled with 128 MB mobile DDR-SDRAM, 128 MB NAND flash memory and a 200-pin SODIMM connector. The TX37 is targeted at embedded mobile multimedia applications where size, high-cpu performance and low power consumption are critical factors.

The TX37 is pin-compatible with the existing TX27 i.MX27 processor based module. Both modules can be supplied with the Development Kit-5 hardware reference platform that includes support for Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0.

According to Bob Giblett, President Strategic Test Corp., “As embedded applications continue to proliferate, Strategic Test has developed new products such as the TX37. With all virtually all hardware and software development done in house, as well as manufacturing, Strategic Test has a distinct advantage in bringing new products to market faster and with better applications support.”

The i.MX 37 is derived from the popular i.MX32 processor and based on the ARM1176JZF-S™ core.

Notable features include:

  • 10/100 Mbps Ethernet
  • High-speed USB 2.0 OTG
  • True color LCD controller
  • Multimedia:
    • Multi-standard hardware video decoder @ D1 30 fps:
      • H.264 HP, MP, BP
      • VC-1 SP, MP, AP
      • MPEG4 SP, ASP, DivX
      • MPEG2 MP @ ML
  • Image Processing Unit:
    • Display processor, resizing, inversion, rotation
    • CSC, video/graphics combining
  • Vector Floating Point Unit
  • Two 4-wire UART’s
  • I2C
  • SSI/AC97/I2S
  • Two 4-wire SDIO
  • Keypad 5x5 support
  • Universal 1.8 V interfaces

The TX37 module accepts an input voltage from various sources:

  • 1-cell Li-Ion/Polymer (3.0 V to 4.2 V)
  • 5.0 V USB supply or AC wall adapter
  • 3.3 V

Up to 1 A of output current on either the 1.8 V or 3.3 V power supply outputs of the TX27 module can be used to power the carrier board. This means that in many applications the customer designed product can be powered from the above without needing to add a power supply to their carrier board design.

The TX37 is priced at $299 in quantity 1 to 249 and is sampling now. The Development Kit-5 which includes the TX37 pre-installed Windows CE 6.0 image and BSP is priced at $1990. Production volumes and prices will be available in Q3.
