The Freescale Yocto Project Community BSP is a development community outside of Freescale providing support for i.MX boards on the Yocto Project environment. Freescale provides an additional layer called the Freescale BSP Release, known as meta-fsl-bsp-release, to integrate a new Freescale release with the Freescale Yocto Project Community BSP.

Such a Yocto Project built rootfs can be used directly on the TX6 with the Linux kernel provided with the Starter Kit. The latest MfgTool composition provided includes a hardware accelerated X11 with Qt4 example on mainline Linux kernel 3.16.
ARMSDK - Virtual Machine.
The Starter Kit includes a complete preconfigured Debian VMware virtual machines, called ARMSDK-VM, which can be used to customise RedBoot, Linux kernel and root-file-system.

TX modules are always delivered with pre-installed U-Boot firmware. U-Boot supports several low-level-debugging options and file download via Ethernet or serial X/Y/ZModem. These files can additionally be stored into the permanent flash-memory to be started by command or power-on.
