The TX-STAR is a new low-cost computer-on-module (COM) module from Strategic Test that totally re-defines the price/performance point of ARM9 computer-on-modules. The exceptionally low price of the TX-STAR makes it an excellent choice for company’s who are currently using 16-bit MCU’s and would like to migrate to standard operating systems such as Linux and Windows CE.
The TX-STAR is specifically targeted at embedded applications where operating temperature range of -45 to +85 degC, size, WinCE/Linux support and lowest cost are critical factors.
By using a SOM as the basis of a new product design, the company eliminates the most difficult development tasks of processor system and operating system development. This leads to fast prototyping of new product ideas and time-to-market, plus you benefit from ongoing BSP updates that are free of charge. The only hardware development usually needed is a simple 2 or 4-layer carrier board (similar to the carrier in the Development Kit-5), which is well within the skills of most companies.
The Development Kit-5 includes both Linux and Windows CE 6, with full driver support of all the peripherals on the carrier.
Because these products are supplied by Strategic Test who have developed a reputation as one of the Worlds leading suppliers of Intel / Marvell and Freescale Development Kits and Computer-on-Modules; you can trust that the hardware and software is stable and backed up by truly responsive and competent technical support. Uniquely, all hardware and software development, and manufacturing is performed in house – so that you can be confident that the highest quality is achieved from start to end.
The TX-STAR boasts a 400 MHz processor, 64 MB SDRAM and 128 MB Flash together with internal processor features such as Ethernet, USB 2.0, CAN bus and LCD controller. The integrated LCD controller allows direct connection to the screen, while the internal Ethernet controller only needs the addition of magentics and a connector. The standard PCMCI interface permits simple extension and integration into a target system.
Key features :
The TX-STAR module is supplied with a DIMM200 connector to provide the designer with access to all of the Freescale i.MX processor signals for nearly unlimited expansion. All of our Freescale modules share the same signal pinout and are compatible with the Development Kit-5.
Unlike our other modules, the STAR does not use mobile SDRAM or Flash. Therefore power consumption of 0.5W is a little higher than the TX27 for example.
